Fabric Food!

Hello! Remember the pattern I wanted to try last week? Well I got it! And completed my niece, Abbie's birthday gift. I like the way everything turned out. I did a different fabric for the shopping bag other than just solid green felt. I was more fond of this fabric I already had that says "green" and "love" all over it. And it's just perfect for a sweet, two year old girl.


Here are some pictures of the beginning of my progress. My plan was to take pictures of all of the food items as sort of a before, during and after idea. But I got so into the project that I forgot to pick my camera up after the eggs and squash. But I'll share those with you. :)

Ok, so I just decided that I don't want to put up a pic of the squash in progress, because I only took one picture of it. So instead, I'll just show you some pics of everything finished! That's more fun to look at anyway.

Veggies: squash, eggplant, tomato and carrot. The pattern also has a pumpkin, but I decided not to do it. There were already a lot of orange things. Yep, that's my logic.

Fruits: banana, apple, orange, strawberries and orange slice. The strawberries are probably my favorite. I contemplated keeping one and only giving Abbie two. But that wouldn't be right. She's a baby and I can make more if I want. So she gets all three.




See how cute they are? :) My fingers were super sore after all the hand sewing I did on this project. I usually don't hand sew at all. But I'm happy with the way it all turned out, so it was worth it.

So there you have it. Completed in less than a week. Now go out and buy the Simplicity pattern 2445 and make a bag-full of fruits, veggies and eggs. Oh...that pattern also comes with a cake and cupcake pattern. I'll save that one for later. Maybe for another niece. :)

Fabric Flowers

I've just recently learned how to make these fabric flowers. They are pretty easy! The ones here are some pins, and hair clips I made for a friend's wedding. They were fun! :)



Then I watched a tutorial online of how to make flower bib necklaces and came up with this:


I really like it! It's so bright and fun. And just in case you want to make your own, here are the tutorials I used. :)

You don't have to use handkerchiefs, I just cut squares of pretty fabrics for mine. Except for the white flower. That was a handkerchief.

For the flower bib necklace, I couldn't find the same tutorial I used. It was about 10 minutes long on youtube. But if you go to youtube.com and type in "flower bib necklace" there are some others you can look at. I'm sure they will teach you the same methods. :)

Also I'm excited about making Christmas gifts for this year. I started buying stuff in August, so hopefully I won't wait til the last minute this year. I've been looking at adorable felt play food online lately and I really want to make some for my youngest niece, Abbie. Here is a pattern I want to use from Simplicity. It's so cute.

Funny things we say, A trip to the Costa Rican embassy and Glowing Abe

My Costa Rican family and I went to Washington D.C. to visit their embassy. We left enough time to visit some monuments and museums during our time there, but not a lot of time. My concern for the trip was safety and having enough time to make the 8 hour drive back to Ohio. My husband's concern was just having a good time. Here is one of our conversations. :)

Sara: "There's so much that I want to see! I wish we had more time."

Marco: "Well, we can stay out late and come back in the morning."

Sara: "No way! I'm not walking around Washington DC at night! It's dangerous!"

Marco: "It's not dangerous. Obama lives there. It has to be safe."

Robots

These are robots. :) I made them. I like them a lot! The following is a conversation between me and my husband.

Marco: "They're really cute. But, why did you give the girl robot a 'slot'?"

Sara: *offended* "What!? She doesn't have a slot! She is supposed to be a cassette player!"

Marco: "Well, she has a slot."

Sara: *after contemplation* "Dang it. She has a slot. I should probably re-make her. Kid's toys just shouldn't be sexual. Look at Barbie. She doesn't have anything going on down there. Just smooth plastic."

The evening sun and wind chimes...

I bought this wind chime the other day for five bucks. I thought it was so cool because it was made of forks and spoons and other kitchen ware. So I hung it on my deck. The last few nights, I have looked out the window when the evening sun is bright and low and my wind chime looks so beautiful. It sparkles and bounces light in so many places. I just wanted to share it!






This one I got for free at a yard sale. It looks pretty too and it didn't want to be left out. :)

So, I'm sitting here wondering why they put white carpet in apartments. Really...it gets dirty so easily.

My husband is sitting behind me at the dining room table looking at a Metroid guide he bought online and humming a Demon Hunter song. Hehe :) Okay....now he's straight up singing it out loud in an operatic voice. ^_^ I love him. He helped me today with my Etsy shop and with putting an "Etsy tab" in my facebook page that takes viewers directly to my shop. How cool! I need to learn more about the technical side of starting a small business. I just like to make pretty things.

I think I'm gonna go make some more wallets now. :)

Here comes the sun...do di do do.

Sunshine = motivation! Since the sun has come out, I have been more inspired to make pretty things! :) Wallets, new business cards, updates to my shop and facebook. Man, I need the sun!
Snow, you've been cool for a while, but I think this relationship needs to end. Maybe we can get back together next year.
